The Department

Professional Society

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has student chapters of the following Professional Societies. Every year, the department organises a variety of events through these chapters. Every year, students compete in national level events and win prizes.

  • Society of Automobile Engineering (SAE)
  • The Institution of Engineers (IEI)
  • The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE)
  • IEEE Membership with Vehicular Technology Society, Robotics and Automation Society, Product Safety Engineering Society and Electronics Packaging Society
  • Indian Welding Society (IWS)

SAEINDIA is India’s leading resource for mobility technology. As an individual member-driven society of mobility practitioners the ownership of SAEINDIA wrestswith its members who are Individuals from the mobility community, which includes Engineers Executives from Industry, Government Officials, Academics and Students

SAEINDIA is a strategic alliance partner of SAE International registered in India as an Indian nonprofit engineering and scientific society dedicated to the advancement of mobility industry in India. The Major Events are organized by SAE.

  • BAJA SAE INDIA
  • EBAJA SAE INDIA
  • SUPRA SAE INDIA
  • TRACTOR DESIGN COMPETITION
  • COLLEGIATE CLUB EVENTS

The BAJA SAE INDIA is the event for the undergraduate engineering students, organized globally by the Society Of Automotive Engineers India.

The Baja SAEIndia is an annual event for undergraduate engineering students and organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Its overarching aim is to develop passion among students and build a new generation of future-ready engineers for the automotive industry. The competition is held in eight countries including India.

In India, where adequate infrastructure for electric vehicles is yet to be established in a big way, most OEMs are developing e-variants of their existing models, probably to be ready for the e-revolution as and when it happens in the country and when the government offers enough incentives to make these eco-friendly vehicles viable for buyers and profitable for their manufacturers.

SUPRA is being organised annually by SAEINDIA with the support of Maruti Suzuki, the event provides a platform for students to apply their engineering skills to design and construct a Formula category vehicle as per defined performance and safety specifications. SUPRA SAEINDIA 2017 comprised of a series of Static and Dynamic events spread over five days, concluding with a final Endurance run and a valedictory function

Engineering students entering the industry will be equipped with practical knowledge and design experience. Prepares the students to be effective professional engineers.
Tractor Design Competition tasks the students to think, analyse, design, develop, build, test and present a tractor in series of event.
Unique Engineering Design Competition for Students with a realistic 360-degree workplace experience.
Students gain practical technical experience in the areas:

  • Design of drive train systems
  • Tractor performance
  • Manufacturing processes
  • Analysis of tractive forces

Students develop skills in:

  • Communication
  • Leadership
  • Teamwork

Collegiate clubs provide practical exposure to a professional engineering society as well as focal point for campus engineering programs and projects. Applicants must be students pursuing studies leading to any bachelor, masters, or doctoral degree in Engineering Colleges approved by AICTE or UGC. SAEINDIA Collegiate clubs offer student members organise programs and activities, fellowship, and leadership experience.
