The Department of Mechanical Engineering has made significant advances in the fields of Science and Engineering since its inception in 2011. The department’s intake increased from 60 to 120 students in the 2012-2013 academic year. The Department provides students with cutting-edge laboratory facilities and an exceptional infrastructure. The teaching and technical staff in the department are highly qualified, dedicated, and enthusiastic. The department is NBA accredited and follows the Industry 4.O curriculum and syllabus. The department’s laboratory houses the Industry Innovation Centre in collaboration with Ritisha Transmissions, Chennai. The number of students admitted in 2020-21 has been reduced to 60 in order to ensure quality education. The department launched a postgraduate programme in industrial safety engineering with 18 students enrolled in the 2019-2020 academic year. Anna University awarded the Department of Research Recognition for the academic year 2022-2023.
It is a discipline with a wide range of applications in emerging fields such as Composite Materials, CAD, CAM, CIM, Robotics, Mechatronics, Renewable Energy, and so on. The Department hosts a number of Guest Lectures and Seminars by faculty from prestigious institutions such as the IITs and Anna University in Chennai. Every year, the Department also hosts conferences and industrial visits to ICF, NLC, Ashok Leyland, IGCAR, and Ennore Thermal Power Station. Our department’s students have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Their thoughts and creativity have yielded them state-level prizes.
The department’s placement record is excellent, increasing to nearly 80% each year. Our graduates have been placed in Tier I companies such as Hyundai, Ashok Leyland, Mahendra & Mahendra, TVS, Anand Automotives, and others. The department has a distinguished and progressive academic record. The Department has deep roots and has consistently maintained its top position, which is only possible because of the department’s strong staff support. Numerous staff members have actively participated in research activities, and their experience piques students’ interest in developing technical knowledge in a variety of fields. More than 45 patents have been published by staff and students. Staff and students are involved in IEEE, ISTE, SAE, and IEI. More than 600 research articles have been published by the faculty and students. The department’s Google Scholar h-index reached 60, and the total number of citations surpassed 13000.
